A bit about who I amRod Van Vleet can help SD-57B
  • A husband, father and grandfather.
Marcia and I have been married for 41 years and have been proud to raise our three children, Amy, Andy, and Peter in Hastings. They’ve blessed us with four grandchildren, Zack, Brianna, Cora and Rome.
  • An educator.
I've enjoyed a 30-year career in education, serving as a teacher and principal. I’ve worked for the Hastings Public School system for 27 of those years. I’m a Life Member of the National Education Association. And I am passionate about providing the best educational opportunities for our citizens of all ages. As for my own education, I’m a graduate of Winona State University, where I earned Bachelor and Masters degrees and where I was a graduate assistant in the History Department.
  • A veteran.
I’m proud to have served for 4 years in the United States Air Force.
  • A churchgoer.
I've been an active member of St. Philips Lutheran Church for 40 years and have served as President of the Congregation and as a Sunday School and Confirmation teacher.
  • Someone who believes in learning from our past.
I attended a country grade school and graduated from Trempealeau High School. I was formed by my country upbringing, and want to help preserve what was best about that life.
I'm the current Chairman of the Friends of LeDuc, a support group for the LeDuc Historical Estate in Hastings. I'm also a member of the Minnesota Historical Society and the Dakota County Historical Society. My parents owned a small dairy farm and, later, a gas station and garage in the rural area near Trempealeau, Wisconsin.
  • Someone who believes in preparing for the future.
I'm a Member of the National Park Conservation Association.
