Let's Move Minnesota Ahead Again!
“We can cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Sound to you like the way our Governor and his supporters in the Legislature have approached problem-solving?
It sounds to me like the wrong way to go about rebuilding Minnesota's transportation infrastructure -- funding our schools -- jump-starting our state and local economy -- or meeting our healthcare needs.
I think it's time for some sound planning and statewide solutions instead.
Think so too? Then join me!
I'm Rod Van Vleet. I've been your neighbor, proud to live in Hastings, for over 40 years. I taught at Hastings Jr. High School for 10 years, and served as Assistant Principal and Principal of Hastings High School for 17 years. Now I'm running — with DFL endorsement — to represent all of us in District 57B in Minnesota's House of Representatives.
Back when I was a teacher, I kept a big sign above the blackboard in the front of my classroom. It said: MAN IS A CREATURE OF HABIT. It's how we get by, carrying out daily tasks that don't require a lot of planning and thought. But to do more than just “get by,” we need careful planning and decisive action. And they've been sadly lacking in our state government.
I hope you'll take some decisive action — Join me and help me get Minnesota moving ahead again on critical issues like these:

We need reliable and safe means of transportation to get us to our jobs, return us to our homes, and to deliver our daily needs. ( Read more… )
Education
Schools shouldn't be forced to keep asking voters to raise their property taxes to fix leaky roofs and moldy windows. ( Read more… )
Health Care
Do you have adequate health insurance and access to quality health care for you and your family? I hope so. Unfortunately, many of our fellow citizens are not so fortunate. ( Read more… )
Environment
As a father and grandfather, I want those who come after me to live in a safe environment and be able to enjoy the great outdoors. ( Read more… )
Property Taxes
Reasonable property taxes are an investment in our quality of life. In the past, they were a good, prudent and reasonable investment. But lately, homeowners have been asked to shoulder more than their fair share. ( Read more… )
